Should I file a claim?

Before you file a claim, you should consider...

  • Does the damage warrant the claim? In other words, is insurance likely to approve payment for an amount well over your deductible? Typically it is not wise to file a roof claim unless you are expecting approval for full replacement. Prestige Roofing can help you with this step, and our inspections are always free.

  • When was the last time you filed a claim? Insurance is more likely to approve the claim if you haven't filed another one recently- especially another homeowners claim.

  • The storm date must be verifiable by insurance. They use many websites etc. to verify storm dates. Make sure the storm is verifiable. Your Prestige Roofing rep can help with this.

  • You typically have 2 years from the date of loss to file a claim (in Arkansas). Make sure your home was insured on that date.

  • Claims for hail damage are approved more than for wind damage. Make sure the verified storm date was for hail, not just wind.

  • Some insurance companies are more strict than others. Prestige Roofing is familiar with the adjusters in your area, and their standards vary slightly. Let us help you know if you should file a claim or not.

Nearly every major insurance carrier has a 24/7 claims line available (and many provide capability to file in an online customer portal). You don't have to make the call on your lunch break at work- it can be done anytime! See below for a list of phone numbers for some of the most popular insurance providers. For the above reasons and more, we typically help coach you through this call in person (calling them together on speakerphone). We'll also notify your agent for you and keep them informed at every step of the claims process.

Some homeowners are concerned that by filing a claim, their insurance premium cost is bound to increase. It's important to keep in mind that weather-related claims are classified as 'Act of God' claims. While it is not wise to file a claim for every storm, your carrier understands that you did not cause the damage- even by accident. It was an 'act of God.' It is a prime example of why you have insurance in the first place. It is true, however, that insurance is a for-profit business, meaning that if enough claims filed in your area or even the country as a whole, your premium may rise.

We hope this helps! You can always reach out to your Prestige Roofing field rep or our main line of 479-879-6593 for help with your questions. We are committed to making this a smooth process for everyone.
